Bio/Description

I taught at Foundation Academy in Trenton, New Jersey until 2010. Currently, I teach in South Jersey at Woodbury Jr./Sr. High School in Woodbury, NJ. It is my 4th year there and the school has been a very exciting place to work and a very good fit for me.

In 2014 I won the “Teacher of the Year” award for Woodbury High School and was selected by my district as the "District Teacher of the Year" as well.

I’ve certainly learned and grown a lot over the past 5 years as an educator, but there is still so much to learn. Thank you for all of the support and guidance you provided me as an aspiring and novice teacher, and thanks to the Program for preparing me to move through multiple phases of my young career. The reflective practice I learned in Teacher Prep has carried me this far. I’ve reached a point where I have a good sense of all of the things I need to be doing in order to help my students be successful, and now I’m simply learning how to find sustainable ways to do them all.

John Travis ’08 will begin a Doctor of Educational Leadership (Ed.L.D.) program at Harvard's Graduate School of Education. The program seeks to empower systems-level leaders in American education to work with national philanthropies, nonprofits, state and federal departments of education, and large school systems to affect change. Working with professors from Harvard's Business school, Kennedy School of Government, and the Graduate School of Education, John will pursue studies in organizational management, policy, and teaching in order to affect systems-level change in education.
