Teacher Prep would like to celebrate the release of Climate Change Education Across Disciplines K–12 New Jersey and Beyond. In this edited volume, experts from across the state offer strategies, suggestions, advice, and vignettes to support educators as they begin to implement climate change instruction in their classrooms. Edited by: Lauren Madden, Professor of Elementary Science Education at TCNJ
Our TPP Assistant Director of STEM, Dr. Jessica Monaghan, co-authored a chapter entitled, "Education for Climate Action in Secondary Schools". The chapter proposes an Education for Action model with a solutions-oriented perspective to empower students in middle and high schools to become informed, engaged, and proactive agents of change. The chapter aligns educational research and best practices for climate change education including an interdisciplinary approach with project-based learning methodologies. The framework is contextualized with vignettes of middle school and high school classrooms across the disciplines.
We also extend our congratulations to our Teacher Preparation Executive Committee Member, Dr. Sami Kahn, Executive Director of the Council on Science and Technology (CST) on her contribution to the edited volume. Dr. Kahn’s first-authored chapter, entitled "Socioscientific Issues (SSI) as a Framework for Teaching Climate Change" expands on the many publications she has authored on the topic including her book, It’s Still Debatable! Using Socioscientific Issues to Develop Scientific Literacy, K-5.
We are thrilled to highlight these wonderful publications on climate change education!
