The Program in Teacher Preparation is very proud to congratulate Ivan Garcia ’23, Midori Kawaue *21 and Viola Mocz ‘18 for being nominated for the 2024 New Jersey Distinguished Clinical Intern Award. All of the nominees and their host teachers were honored at a ceremony held at Kean University on Wednesday, May 29. Ivan Garcia student taught mathematics at P-TECH High School in New Brunswick and was hosted by Seth Upson. Midori Kawaue student taught social studies and was hosted by Katie Dineen at Princeton High School. Viola Mocz student taught biology at Princeton High School and was hosted by Jennifer Smolyn. The ceremony featured remarks by Amy Kline, president of the New Jersey Association of Colleges for Teacher Education; acting New Jersey Commissioner of Education, Kevin Dehmer; and New Jersey Teacher of the Year, Joseph Nappi. Each of the state’s 25 educator preparation programs is allowed to nominate up to three candidates for this honor, and then an awards panel selects 15 nominees to be awarded with distinction. Midori Kawaue was one of the sixteen student teachers awarded with distinction. The Program is deeply grateful for the support and mentoring that the host teachers provided to these students. The entire Teacher Prep community is very proud of the excellent teaching performed by Ivan, Midori, and Viola. Congratulations to each on this prestigious recognition!
