TPP welcomes new staff member, Jessica Monaghan, Ed.D.

The Program in Teacher Preparation is very proud to welcome its newest staff member, Jessica Monaghan, Ed.D. as the Assistant Director of STEM.  Dr. Monaghan will be advising and supervising mathematics and science students in the program, and she will be serving as an instructor in the TPP 403 and TPP 404 courses. 

From her start as a middle school science teacher in K-12 education, Dr. Monaghan has continued to grow and evolve as a learner. Dr. Monaghan is experienced in curriculum writing, assessment design, and developing and leading professional development to help meet the vision of the Next Generation Science Standards. As a Science Supervisor, Dr. Monaghan oversaw science teaching and learning from grades K-12, working closely with district administrators, building administrators, and teacher leaders. She enjoyed supporting teachers in reflection and providing opportunities for growth, as well as working with teacher leaders one-on-one.

Among her interests, Dr. Monaghan worked towards engaging families in STEM, integrating social emotional learning into the classroom, equitable learning experiences for students, and bringing meaningful partnerships to her classroom and district. Her involvement in science education within New Jersey has afforded her the opportunity to present at the New Jersey Science Convention, as well as at the Summer Institutes held by SENCER (a nationally recognized initiative from National Center for Science and Civic Engagement- NCSCE). Dr. Monaghan developed one of the model K-12 units for SENCER through collaboration and partnership, to expand outreach and resources to K-12 practitioners. As a result, the team received the William E. Bennett award in 2019 for their efforts to bring civic engagement to K-12 science.

Dr. Monaghan is excited to be joining the Program in Teacher Preparation to work with pre-service teachers to support each of their individual journeys into education. Dr. Monaghan earned her undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Rutgers University and Rutgers Graduate School of Education.
