Greg Hand '76

Greg grew up in Pound Ridge, New York.  Father Paul Hand, P.U. Class of ’35.  Fox Lane High School, Bedford, NY.  Princeton class of ’76; majored in religion, enrolled in Teacher Prep and gained certification in social studies.  In 1977, was hired to be the social studies teacher at the Newgrange School, a start-up serving students with learning disabilities and atypical learning styles, still operating in Trenton, NJ.  With a mandate only to “teach social studies”, enjoyed the extraordinary opportunity to freely develop curricula and methods.  In 1985, was hired by Princeton Regional Schools, and taught and coached there through this past June.  Starting with three years in the middle school, was transferred to Princeton High School, where courses have included AP Government and Politics, ‘regular’ and AP U.S. history, and, for all twenty-six years, semester electives on Africa and the (Former) Soviet Union.  While teaching in the public schools, coached track and field for 25 years, girls’ varsity soccer for 23 years, and boys’ and girls’ swimming for 18 years. Married in 1977, has three grown children, including Peter, P.U. Class of ’09, who currently works in private equity in Dallas.
