After graduating from Princeton I went to the University of California, Los Angeles, where I earned my Ph.D. My career path was Higher Education, and the Teacher Prep program vastly improved my readiness as an academic and scholar. It opened doors for teaching at all levels and was a part of my being able to position myself to serve on the New Jersey State Board of Education for 7 years including 4 as its President.
Today, I am a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and a Program Director of the Organizational Leadership Program in the Sschool of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University. The opportunity on a regular basis to enhance, inspire and influence the thinking of young people is what keeps me motivated and passionate about my work.
As I reflect on my experience in the Teacher Prep Program, one of the most valuable recollections was the quiet, scholarly and yet compassionate presence of Dean Henry Drewry to myself and many others in the program at that time. I believe it influenced all who taught or otherwise contributed to this learning experience.
