The Program in Teacher Preparation is very proud to congratulate Ivan Garcia ’23, Midori Kawaue *21 and Viola Mocz ‘18 for being nominated for the 2024 New Jersey Distinguished Clinical Intern Award. All of the nominees and their host teachers were honored at a ceremony held at Kean University on Wednesday, May 29.
This year’s recipients of the Princeton Prize for Distinguished Secondary School Teaching are Ahmed Hassanein of Brensinger School, P.S. #17, in Jersey City, Sandra Keel-Huff of Orange High School, Bess Spero Li of Crossroads South Middle School in South Brunswick, and Theresa Riccardi of High Point Regional High School in Sussex.

Theresa began college with the intent to pursue a Ph.D. and become a college professor. However, during her junior spring, she found herself burnt out from doing research and began searching for a new path forward. She realized that the main reason she wanted to become a professor was to teach, which led her to join the Teacher Preparation Program (TPP). Theresa fell in love with being in the classroom, designing assignments, and working with students. Without a doubt, TPP was the highlight of her undergraduate experience!
