Michelle Shearer ’95, National Teacher of the Year

Michelle Shearer ’95 is a Program in Teacher Preparation graduate and was named the 2011 National Teacher of the Year by President Obama in a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House on May 3 of 2011.  Michelle teaches AP chemistry at Urbana High School in Ijamsville, Maryland, and is a strong advocate of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education.  She is passionate about making science accessible to all students, especially students who are typically underrepresented in the field.   In February, 2012, Michelle visited the Princeton University campus and gave the following talk to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and guests from the local education community.
